Bought the car about 2 months ago and did an oil change same day of purchase with 130k on the clock (got a good deal) Its been about 2800 miles since then and car has burned up a lil less then half a quart. I do drive the car hard from time to time but there is no smoking on hard accelerations or leaks anywhere. Oil used was castrol 5w20 So for the next oil change i was thinking of switchin the oil to 10w-30 and see how that goes. Any suggestions of what oil to run?? Bad seals?? Rings?? Doing a compression test also on my to do list Also future plans are doing a stock rebuild and maybe some hitech cams/long tubes but thats about it. Any help is appriciated thanks cafords

change up to 10-30. half a quart gone isnt bad. check pcv valve. i've seen a lot of mod motors burn oil and still perform. check for oil leaks too. oil pan/ valve covers/ rear main/ timing cover. visual inspection. [ 2013-09-16, 10:37 PM: Message edited by: SacStangDriver ]

I would change over to 15W40. Much better oil for a 5.0. Skip the compression test and do a leak down test. A leak down test is much better for evaluation. I assume you live in a worm climate! If you do not see temps below 30-40* skip the 10W30 and move up to a 15-40. When we build the 5.0 we normally do not use the light weight oils like 10W30 even with our climates. By the way a 1/2 quart of oil in 2800 is no big deal. [ 2013-09-17, 02:06 AM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]

02 gt never came with a 5.0...... 10w30 is a better oil to run with that type of mileage

Sorry typo i know that car has a MOD motor!. WE also use 15W40 in those engines as well.
Why would 10W30 be better for an engine with specific mileage. Just curious!!! [ 2013-09-17, 04:17 AM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]

once you are at 150k i recommend chagning the timing chain tensioners and tensioner guides. they wear out on those engines.
