Who has done it? What technic have you guys used? Tools tips? Etc. I have an 86 flat top piston motor and tfs1. The valves hit the piston. Need help ASAP!!!!

I'd do it this way, but instead of the DIY notching tool, I'd just buy the real thing from Isky.

But with '86 pistons, you may be hosed. You might either need to swap them or take them to a machine shop. There's a lot of material you'll need to remove. [ July 31, 2012, 01:00 AM: Message edited by: wilit ]

Change ur pistons or motor is ur only option. if you grind enough material off ur flat tops to have valve clearance there is not going to be enough material left on the piston surface to run the motor safely. You can grind with a dremmel iff you want to be cheap but your best bet is swapping pistons and bearings while ur at it.

i notched my pistons on my 2v in order to run the stage 3 cams actually did u fairly easy i used playdough then rotated the crank and pulled heads and see where and grind a bit at a time after it was all done we did a compresion test and it checked out just like before

Just going to wait it out and buy a forged pistons. Same stock bore.Or stroke it out to a 331. Looked into a 306 but for the money it's not worth it. [ August 05, 2012, 12:15 PM: Message edited by: 209stang ]

I see were u r coming from, its is pointless to buy a 306 kit when for a couple bucks more u can get a stroker kit.
