i just switched my harmonic balancer to match my flexplate both off a 5.0 but its on my 302 in my 68 stang an i noticed the pully bolt pattern is different the 68 has a 3 hole triangle pattern when the 5.0 has a 4 hole square pattern so it doesnt line up so my question is do i use the 5.0 pulley if so doesnt it have to be a non-serpentine pulley?

Is the engine in your car a 302 or a 5.0? The pre-'81 302's use 28oz flywheels/balancers and the post-'81 5.0's use a 50oz flywheel/balancer. You can't run a 50oz on a 28oz crank and vice versa. you'll tear the motor up.

Like I said before, you can't use the 5.0 balancer on the 302, they're the wrong ones. You need to pick up a 28oz flywheel to match your '68 balancer. The flywheel and balancer need to match the imbalance of the crank.
This is all assuming you're positive it's the original '68 302. [ September 09, 2011, 01:51 PM: Message edited by: wilit ]
