So for a while now iv been contemplating buying an ls1 powered car mainly for the power they can make with simple bolt ons and a tune after spending a day at newtech performance.. But something about my stang keeps billing me back. So I was inking about getting a supercharger maybe vortech s trim. I have a stock bottom end 302 with a TF top end kit and I was wondering how much power I could expect and how long I should expect my bottom end to last?..... Sorry for the long post.

man those ls motors sure are nice.

Anyway you will make more than enough power to split the block and easily walk most ls1 bolt on cars.

i have a stock ls1 in my notch, 350 rwhp/ 360 tq. my old setup was a built 302 with 61mm turbo on 7psi made 400 rwhp. car is nearly as fast, i get 28mpg on the freeway, and daily drive the shit out of it. o and the car is about 300lbs lighter. cheap enough swap now that the prices for the ls motors have dropped, w/ heads/cam on an ls1 no one is touching you on the street

Its not difficult at time. I had a single turbo 6 liter in my mustang tho I never start and drove it I made tons of progress on it (AJE K member) before being offered twice what I had in it.

^ don't give up on your sbf..... Ge yourself a nice forged short block built to handle boost. ( get an aftermarket block So you can safely make some real power.)
Or say fuck it and buy a new 5.0..... It's a better swap then an ls motor. Those new 5.0 motors are gonna shit all over these so called magical LS based motors. [Razz]

Depending on Your exhaust, fuel system, amd amount of boost You want to run 400 to 550 rwhp. low to high 10 second 1/4 mile times will be attainable with a good drivetrain and some sticky tires. Longevity will depend on how heavy Your right foot is & a little luck. My car's current shortblock survived over 700 rwhp "before I got it" & lot's of low 11 second & high 10 second passes and about 5,000 street miles that I put on it. Though Some never make it through their inital dyno tune. Good thing is there a dime a dozen [dance] .

Dont claim power if ya cant mile per hour. 10 second AOD

Most Bolt on LS1's will be in the 350-365 RWHP Range. Plenty of cam only are in the 400 RWHP Range, a friend of mine made 404 RWHP through 4.30's in a Moser 9 inch. Cam only too, add a set of 5.3 heads and you you can expect another 40 rwhp easily. Not to mention people go deep in 9's on stock block.

A 302 will be unreliable passed 450RWHP, I remember reading an article of them splitting down the middle.

I also remember a new 5.0 being,

1) three times the price of an LS1.
2) parts ARE expensive.

i say build what you want to build. my car is a stock block 331 making 460 at the wheels. heads, ca, and 6-8lbs with an s-trim. its a blast to drive and i drive it every day. on the other hand one of my best friends just got dont builind a 406 inch LS2 for his 93 RX7. car should make 600 at the tires with the nitrous and still get 25 mpg.

Thanks for the tech info...... Like I said MOST LS1 cars.

I know all too well the power the LS cars can make LIKE I said I put one in my mustang with a single turbo.....

Had to fab a crossover for the powerglide trans.

Had a cat from the norcal ls page make a custom harness, dont remember his screen name but he is easily found.

Other than that I had no A/C no powersteering, manual brakes.

I bought swap headers to cut up and make turbo headers out of but never got that far prior to selling it.

The dude that used to have the fast ss, eastoakland ss or shawn or something like that did his swap pick his brain as well.

There are also a few websites out there that detail it step by step.

I know I got one of the first k members that accepted any motor you just used different pads it has an m suffix in the part number.

I have pics on my photobucket account court9155 is my id.

To be honest tho I only did it because I came across a good running LQ 6.0 liter motor for next to nothing and I wanted to go fast and reliably. I was gonna put blower pistons and good rods in it cuz the iron block and crank have been proven to 1500hp and the heads flow 300cfm plus just need better valve springs.

If I was starting from zero Id go with a boss block, AFR or TEA TFS heads and solid roller cam with some boost.

ive never seen an ls1 dyno @ 365rwhp with only boltons, but who knows maybe it was one of those 02's when it seemed GM mish mashed LS1 and LS6 stuff. Almost every full bolt-on LS1 ive seen over at LS1tech puts down 340-345rwhp

I agree but I do have to admit to seeing one put down 314hp at the wheels bones stock. It was an 01 SS if I remember right.

It was NBM in color.
