I have always been told that leaded race fuel leaves deposits on O2 sensors, is this true? Thanks for any help.

Absolutely true. The deposits will cause hot spots on the sensor, causing them to weaken and overheat...boom, they will shatter. In the early 2000's I went through about 3 pairs of them...Autozone thought I was crazy returning them in that condition.

Thanks for the reply Johnb. I don't want to take the risk of wearing out my O2's any faster so ill call tommorow to make sure the order is unleaded. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up but the owner of ERC was the one telling me that the leaded fuel is a little cheaper and it will not harm the O2's. Im going to run the unleaded to be safe.

I ran leaded gas on many different Mustangs and didnt have a problem, but I do know it does happen but I thought it took awhile for them to go bad. [ January 27, 2011, 05:38 AM: Message edited by: racsirx ]

You were very lucky...or ran a aftermarket heated sensor. 40-50 hrs run time, max...and they will fail.

I was running stock oxygen sensors, I have more than 50hrs of run time on my Coupe and only ran straight C16 only. I have a few friends with F.A.S.T. and their oxygen sensors havent given them problems with leaded gas.

Some fuels are worse than others. 110 leaded seems to be the worst at fouling O2's. (20 minutes before fouling the new O2's in one customers car) We run C16, Q16, and Maximal without any real O2 issues, however we flush the systems with pump 91 after racing to clear those fuels out. The leaded fuel is only used for racing. Pump gas or unleaded race gas otherwise.
Sunoco 260GT (104 unleaded) is what we prefer to run in all our modular setups. Best fuel we've found for these motors. Mixing unleaded and leaded at no more than a 50/50 mix also works well.... Depending on the fuel (some don't mix at all). Our fuel distributor will custom blend any fuel we want if we order a full 54gal barrel. (104 + 116 for example) [ January 27, 2011, 06:09 AM: Message edited by: 93PONY ]

My bet is you are putting two different fuels in the car depending on how empty that barrel is. 260GT+ is heavier than the leaded fuels and over time, will separate and be at the bottom of the barrel. 260GT (100 octane) is even heavier and will separate faster.
