also another ? if i just drop the pan and make sure the pick up and filter is clean i wont have to prime it will i? this motor had alot of sludge and the lifters got loud and all of a sudden they wont shut up. i figure with all the sludge from the intake gasket job that it might be clogged. i want to try this before i tare into it for the lifters

If it's got sludge up top, it's down bottom..and there's no "cleaning out" a oil pump. If it has debris in it, it's on it's way out. At a minimum, I'd change the pump and pickup.

ok another ? for ya john b

ok so after i got this the lifter would amke noise and then go away sometimes it take awhile and ide let it sit. then it was ok and then it just wouldnt stop. there lots of sludge. you think the lifter is ok. my thought is the pump wont pump oil and there for not letting the lifter fill with oil.or am i just wasting my time trying to get a pump and or clean it. i beleave the pump isnt pumping at full psi. also when the oil cap is off you dont see good oil flow.

anything i can try to get sludge out or nething. im wanting to drop oil pan and inspect it.

any thoughts or advice

I would run a can of Engine Flush and then Seafoam through it first before tearing into it. If it's gunked up that bad, putting another pump in it isn't going to fix anything. You have to break that stuff down/remove it first, otherwise you're wasting your time.

Use a can of Gunk brand Motor Flush. Follow the instructions per the manufacturer.

If anything is going to be hurt in the motor, it's already happened.
