Well, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get rid of my surging problems on start up. Whether cold or warm I fire up my fox and it hunts around, jumping from 1200-500 and sometimes dies. After a minutes it idles fine at around 750/800. I have cleaned out the AIC valve, replaced and reset the TPS, checked for vacuum leaks with a whole can of starting fluid and a a propane torch (not lit of course). I checked the pcv system and everything is ran the right way. This all started after the Holley intake swap, but not right away. It was a few months after an all of the sudden it just started doing it. The car runs great, when I drive it and come to a stop the idle goes right to where it should be, it doesn't hang around. Any other ideas guys? I even ran an extra ground from the firewall ground right to the Neg battery cable, which actually cleared up a few other hiccups I had. Any other ideas?

Somewhat. I mean, I did it, but i dont know if I did it properly. Basically just let the car warm up, pull the aic plug, lower the idle as low as possible then turn off the car. Reinstall the the plug and start it back up. It was a cool for a little bit then went back to normal. Idk maybe my maf is going funky.

you set the base idle, not as low as it goes, but at where u want it to idle.and u might try a coolant temp sensor for the ecu

+1 on the ECT sensor, if it's not a vacuum leak, then problems that happen when the ecu switches out of warm up mode are usually related to the temp, either the thermostat is too cold, or the ECT is bad.

I don't think a MAF would cause these symptoms on a 5.0.

edit, and since I don't know it by heart, I always follow this guide to get a 5.0 idling right - http://www.muscularmustangs.com/iac.php

but even after all that, my `89 would surge like crazy at seemingly random times, until I bought the Ford Racing idle adjuster spacer for the IAC motor, it has 2 set screws on it that allow you to fine tune the airflow for idle, totally and completely cured the surge on my car, though it's stupid over priced for what it is, I think I paid $30 or $40 for it.

It's at 16 now. I played with it between 13-16 and nothing changed. I just set it to 16, it doesn't ping and pulls good. I'm definately going to clean the salt n pepper connectors today. I actually noticed in the morning when I first fire it up, it doesn't surge really, but still a little bit.
