Ok so last Saturday I put in my new clutch, but I had to cut the egr tube going to the h pipe, cause it was welded. So i finished up the clutch, drove it.. it seemed fine besides that the pipe was rattling. Then I got the check engine light. I didnt check it until wednesday, cause I noticed the car stunk really bad. These are the codes I got: koeo 171 172 189 556 then koer 172.... so disconnected the battery last night to reset the codes, drove it all day today, this time I only got the 172 code back. It also has a hanging Idle, i checked for vacuum leaks, I couldnt find any. I also recently upped the timing to 13 degrees, but that didn't change anything, or affect anything.

Please help me diagnose this... It seems to be running through gas more too... any more information you need, I will try to answer to the best of my ability. thanks for any help i recieve.

Thats a lean bank 1 code.Possibly an exhaust leak ahead of the o2.Check for that,it could cause that code. Also check the wiring and condition of the o2 sensor on that side.

Could it also be the fact the smog tube is cut? Does it need to be plugged or somethin?

OK, so also.. I helped my friend put a o/r x pipe on his car, and we had to cut his too. Now he gets the light, but the upr o/r x pipe doesnt even have a place to hook it into? Im ready to just plug that shit with some ducktape. I think it has vacuum, cause my finger got sucked in. So maybe thats a fat ass vacuum leak?

It is not vaccum. It injects air into the exhaust. Make sure the vaccum to the cannister and check valve is hooked up.

Just hook the smog tube back up if u have the place to hook it up if not just plug it u can use a piece of hose like that comes from the water pump exc to hook it back up or hose and sumthing solid not hollow to plug it. Then check for exaust leaks and or check connects on 02s
