hey noooow!
i was wondering if i can gain any performance from installing a GT computer in my LX...anyone? or am i dreaming? also, is it worth/possible to build up a 7.5 inch rear end? im not doing any major mods just want a nice runner for now. or should i just invest on an 8.8? any and all info will be heavily scrutinized hahaha! thanks all...

man o man where to start...

lets first start by asking what engine is in your car 4cyl or v8

if you have a v8 LX you will see little notice by swapping eec's,some people say a a9l is the best eec for fox mustangs.

if you drive a 4 banger you CAN'T swap in a "gt" eec and expect a hp gain,all you will gain is a lot of headaches and a car that doesnt run.

You can have any rear end "built" if you have the money.If you have an original v8 you already have a 8.8 unless u drive a pre 85 mustang.

oh, guess i shoulda said its an 88 lx v8 with a t5 and im pretty sure ive got a 7.5 diff out back with 2.73s. i have heard what youve said about minimal power gains by swapping comp's. what about those modules that piggy back to your cars brains? are they worth it? back to the rear end, can i build up my diff? ive heard building up a 7.5 is a waste of time and money. again, thanks for answering my q's.

You sure it's a 7.5? 88 5.0's should have an 8.8. Look at the differential cover, if it's kind of oval, it's a 7.5 if it's round it's an 8.8.

No you will not feel a difference worth going through all those headaches you are about to encounter trying to swap out the ECU.

And yes, you have an 8.8 unless somebody decided to put in an SVO rear end just because its 5 lug disc...

You won't gain anything from a computer swap. There should is really no diff between an LX and GT computer in a 5.0 car. There are different models of computer but changing them would not do you any good.

V8's came with 8.8 rear ends. If (for whatever reason) your car has a 7.5 then I would get an 8.8 (assuming you need a rebuild).

If you want more performance out of your car here are the things I would start with:

* full tune up (plugs, K&N air filter, fuel filter, dist cap/rotor, new wires, etc)
* remove air silencer
* bump up timing
* pulley's
* exhaust (headers, h-pipe, and cat back)
* intake (cobra, GT40, TrickFlow, etc)

why do you want to waste money on a 7.5???

instead why dont you save that money and wait till someone here or craigslist post's up a 8.8 with gears already.I have seen em sell for around 200 bucks...that way you upgrade gears and rear end at the same time...

its not a waste of time since you might learn something... its more of a waste of money,you need a gear and install kit for a 7.5 + labor...easilly over 200 bucks

buying a used geared 8.8 can save you money,BUT you need to be careful not to be taken for a ride,make sure you inspect the diff,gears,trac lock to make sure you end up with a piece of junk you cant use.If it sounds to good to be true it most likely is...

You can hit up pick n pull on a 1/2 off day and score an 8.8 for under 100 bucks...it all depends on your skill level. The more you know how to do the more cash you can save and put towards another mod...

+1 above, if you buy a rearend then check all the parts before putting it in and finding out that the rear end was shot from the get go. I would pick up a 8.8, then put in new stuff, get that thing solid, then you should be worry free knowing its all brand new out back...

I've had a rear end go out on me because the previous owner knew it was bad but told me that it was working...watch out for crooks these days, people will do anything to make a buck and then you get stuck with more problems...this forum is good for knowledge and parts so dont hesitate on here, but do be carefull I've seen a few crooks roming this forum, not by personal experience but with word from fellow members...
