I have a 98 4.6 that has been sitting for about 3 years due to a very sad story involving a spark plug flying out of the head [Frown]

I've finally decided to get it running again in the next couple of days. Any suggestions on what I should do to prep it since its been sitting so long? I believe the gas was low when I parked it, so there probably isn't much in there. (less than 1/4), can I dilute it with fresh gas to get it running?. Should I change oil, put oil in the cylinders, etc? Any other suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

If it was my motor, I would:

Drain the fuel that's in the tank. It's stale and worse, likely has water from condensation buildup. Either disconnect a fuel line or fab up something that fits the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Turn the ignition on to run the fuel pump (without starting the engine of course) to pump out all the fuel. Put fresh gas in the tank and run the pump again until there's a steady stream of fuel.
Change the oil and filter.
Pull all the spark plugs and give each cylinder a 1 second shot of WD40 and let it sit overnight.
With the plugs still out I would try turning the motor a couple of rotations by hand with a socket on the balancer bolt. If it turns smooth, I would then try cranking it with the starter and the plugs still out.
If everything looks good so far, re-install the plugs and try firing it up.
