Last night I swapped out my plugs. 24 Autolites. Have been in the car about 10,000 miles and have a number of Zex runs on them.

First plug I pulled #5 and to my surprise and horror half the terminal on the plug was gone. Looked to be melted away but color of plug wasn't scortched, it was kinda black but not oily. Plugs number 6 & 7 had normal color and terminal position was good. #8 was just a little oily with good terminal position.

Plugs 1,2,3,4 all looked pretty normal with good terminal position and color.

Symptoms of why the first plug was so damaged would be appretiated??? And why just that one plug? Would a header exhaust leak cause that? And clearly the oily plug I have a leaky seal allowing oil to pass through. Any easy fix for that?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Detonation is the cause of the damaged plug. Black soot is from a rich condition.

This all points to poor dispurtion of the fuel & nitrous from your wet kit. Basically, the nitrous and fuel is not being evenly distributed to all 8 cylinders.

What you can do:
My advise would be to run a direct port kit. This is the only way to ensure the proper fuel/nitrous distribution to all 8 cylinders.

But....if you don't want to do that, you can remove your upper intake & inlet system WITH the nitrous nozzle & set everything up on a work bench with the nitrous working. Position the nozzle just like it would be setup on your car and spray nitrous through an open TB. Note which runners are seeing more/less nitrous than the others. Rre-position your nozzle to get a more even spray to all 8 cylinders.

It was a dry kit and I've since removed it. About 8 months ago. I should have checked the plugs then but didn't.
