I'm setting up mutant number two with a stock shortblocked motor. Here is what I have, my main question is camshaft, but feel free to drop in your two cents.
70k mile stock shortblock fresh ported GT-40X heads 1.6 Ford rr's GT-40 intake 70mm Edelbrock tb and spacer Brand new Powerdyne blower pullied for 10psi (give or take) 1 5/8" shorties with 2 1/2" all the way out MSD 6abtm box
What cam is ideal, and what kind of injectors and MAF should I run? I am not afraid of getting a custom bumpstick, but am not sure who to tap for recommended specs. I am staying with the above listed parts for now, as they are already paid for. The next motor will be much wilder, but I just want an optimized combo until I scatter the stock block.
Thanks for your input.

I'm going with a trickflow stg1, 42lb injectors and a stock lightning 90mm MAF on my `89 that will see about 8-10psi from an s-trim with an intercooler.
I know the cam I'm going with isn't perfect, but it matches my smog legal trickflow TW alum heads, 1.6 rockers, and edelbrock intake pretty good.

phildog 42s or 50 will do.if you don't have one but you should already is a 255 fuel pump & a t-rex pump.this is a budget fuel system that will work great.there's this guy i read about in 5.0 magazine that had the exact combo as you but n/a.with stock ports but upgraded the valves to 1.94/1.54 with xcam & ran best of 13.1 at 107 on slicks in a 93 cobra.so your car when done with the blower and good tune will run nice.hope this info was some good of help.

Thanks for the info everyone. I forgot to mention the fuel system, that being the only thing finished as yet for the car.
Custom aluminum fuel tank, 20 gallon, with custom sump
-10 out of tank to Aeromotive pre filter
split to two -8's to two Aeromotive Tsuami pumps
dual -6 out of pumps, y block back into 1/2" stainless hardline running the framerail
Aeromotive post-filter feeding -8 flex line splitting into the two Aeromotive rails
dual -8 out of rails into regulator
-6 out of regulator into 3/8" stainless hardline running back down the framerail into -6 flex line back into the tank
The two pumps were used for redundancy with the interest of reliability should one go south.
Think this will be enough? [ August 08, 2008, 10:12 PM: Message edited by: phildog ]

The fuel system is a work of art, and it sure cost me a fortune. Between the parts themselves and the custom stripping and anodizing of the fittings, in clear and blue, alternating throughout, there is never two blue or two clear anodized fittings next to each other. But hopefully I will not have to upgrade again.
Looks like a custom cam, injectors and finish wiring and the beast will be livin' and breathin.'

Custom cam , I got My shortblock for a great price with the f cam already installed but My next will definatley be custom! Your fuel system sound's awesome & I can't wait till I get some extra fund's to put a better fuel system in Mine . Keep us updated on Your progress! Is this car going to see the drag strip often or just a weekend warrior?

The car is just going to be a street car that will be as quiet and unassuming as possible. I really like to be able to thrash my cars at any number of events, from open track to autocross to the show scene. Use, but don't abuse is my policy.
Did I mention the car getting the blower motor is an early Datsun Z? 2500 pounds of fun! [ August 10, 2008, 09:12 PM: Message edited by: phildog ]

Nice is it a 240 Z? That will be some awsome HP to weight ratio ! My friend had a 240 with a small block and it was fast and handled well, should be a fun ride.

Its a 38k original mile '77 280 Z with 240 bumpers, BRE rear spoiler and a mild front air dam. The 280's have full length frame rails as opposed to the early cars which have the usual unibody frame spuds. It won't be the wildest Z out there, but I want something really fast, unique, and comfy with A/C to drive to the track.
