sorry to ask about my camaro on here but im kinda lost...its an 84 z28 and i think the cable that connects to the automatic transmission(to move from park,drive,neutral) came loose...pretty much my car is in park and the shifter just moves freely back and forth.

sounds like the shifter cable to me as well....either at the shifter or on the tranny...

+1 you need to purchase a new shifter cable.

The service manual says to open the passenger side door,fill the floor board with a flammable liquid and throw a road flare inside.That should fix it.
