Hi, I am planning on buying the rebuild kit that summit sells for the 5.0L. My question is which one do I purchase? They have the one that has a 4.030inch bore and another with 4.060inch bore. Which one is the stock bore and what are your opinions concerning their rebuild kits. I plan on racing my car in the N.A.S.A and would like to know if they permit the use of a 347 stroker?

I cant speak on the NASA restrictions.
I can tell you that the stock bore would be standard size, no overbore. Summit may not list this, but they do sell it. You will want to wait until the motor is apart to order as you need to check the bore and crank for sizing. (brush hone ok? polish crank or turn it?..etc)
4.00
I dont know how quick I would be to bore a late model casting 302 to 60 over then use it for NASA racing.
Just my 2 cents.

stock bore is 4" so the kits are .030 and .060 over unless you have a bore in great shape I would recommend boring it, not just to get a fresh bore but to have better control over piston to bore clearance. If you can run a stroker I would, 331 for boost or nos and 347 n/a. and be sure to check specific parts in the kit, I like summit but beware of cheap bottom of the line rings and bearings, they should have a breakdown on their website detailing each part.

Thank you for the replies. I just checked on post in Corral and they say you can use up to a 408 , but that is a little over my budget. I think a 347 would be ideal. I will need to see what kind of rings the summit kit provides. Thanks again.

FYI a 408 is a stroked 351, you won't get there on a stock 302 block. If your serious I may be able to hook you up with a better kit at a descent price.
