looking to updgrade the suspension and was wondering why some coil overs are like $500 and others are around $200. i know you get what you pay for but is there that much of a differance? Or should i just get a good set of lowering springs
thanks

For that car I would get Sportline Eibach Springs and be done with it. Coilovers are JUNK on the street. They are noisy as hell and ride like crap and with what you are doing with the car, you dont need them!

They are alot lower than a prokit. I have never had any complaints with the sportlines, one of the only springs that will sit that low and still ride good.

I wouldnt mess with any other coil overs on the street besides Maximum Motorsports, or Griggs. I run MM 325lb coil overs up front & Im getting ready to do the rears too. The quality is top notch, & I havent had any issues with them at all with my Bilstien HD's....
As far as the ride goes, my coil overs are more noisy than regular springs, and they are pretty firm, but i would say that the H&R supersports in my 95 have far worse ride quality than the coil overs do...And the lower u go, the worse ride quality gets because there is less suspension travel regardless of coilover, or regular springs.
The Sportlines actually have excellent ride quality, but when my buddy installed them on his 02 Gt, the rear looks like it sits lower than the front., & they dont look very low IMO... They felt pretty soft too & feel like they wouldnt handle very well in the corners. Other people may of had different results, but that was my experience with the sportlines....
Also Keep in mind that with most coil over kits, u have to run specific Struts/shocks & a caster/camber kit.... [ January 21, 2008, 09:46 PM: Message edited by: EPIKMACH ]

i got MM coil overs all the way round, with bilstein and i love em. i had sportline, i think the back looks lower because sportlines drop was 2" all the way round. but for my coilovers, i just love em. the ride quality isnt as good, but i love the way it handles the corners.

sportlines are crap! prokit is the better kit. i have had both for the best ride/performance prokit, for the slammed look sportline. now for coil overs. some have struts that are built for the spring perch to sit on. others have a sleeve that slips over the stock strut. that the spring perch is on. i use a granatelli kit with the street spring. it rides stiffer than stock but not even close to teeth rattleing.
edit: i think i got all the spelling.

I've got the Griggs/KONI coilovers. 100X'S BETTER THAN SPRINGS ALONE! The ride is better, the car handles FAR better, all around, GO COILOVER!

I have MM coilovers/bilstein sport valved for front and back and I noticed a better ride quality then the original suspension setup (H&R Springs/tockico adjustables). The beauty of it all (coilovers) is that you don't have to pay the ride quality price when going for a higher rated spring.
If your intent is to go coilovers (for the street) I would suggest you get the entire package(k-member/ta/phr) instead of going the piece meal approach. As you mentioned before..you get what you pay for.

I have coilovers in the rear and I love them. Handling is great however it is FIRM so you I feel it if I drive over a dime. I think the springs are 350 lbs. The car isn't a DD anymore so I can handle the firmness.
