i have a 68 mustang with a holley 4150 carb on it and a edlelbrock fuel pump. i took it out to the country and got on it and shut it down. when i pulled the plug out it looked really lean. i was wondering where should i start to fix the problem? im thinking hooking up a temp fuel pressure guage inside the car to see what psi its at. i have the stock fuel lines and im wondering if thats my problem? or could it be some adjustments in the carb?

You may want to post more info about your engine combo.

Could be a number of things like not getting enough fuel to the carb or the carb may be adjusted or jetted incorrectly.

I would start with fuel delivery and then look at the carb itself to see if it needs to be adjusted or re-jetted

here is my setup
302 9:5:1
trick flow aluminum heads
mild cam
shorty headers
msd ignition
air gap intake
holley 4150 vac. secondarys
i believe my jets in the front are 82's (its been a while)
at crusing speeds my plugs look fine
edlebrock fuel pump (bigger than stock)
my psi at idle is about 6-7 psi

Those are huge primary jets.

I had a similar setup and ran 67s in the front and 72s in the rear but my compression was about 9 to one.

hard to give advise on this one without actually seeing the plugs myself but if you suspect a lean condition on a boosted engine I'd for damn sure get it fixed or checked out before driving it.

well the problem with the carb is its a vac secondary....there isnt any jets or power valve in the rear? its just a bowl and a plate inside.
my plugs were light tan around the base.. but pretty white towards the top.

In this carb there is only primary jets...i can purchace a aftermarket metering plate wich would put jets in the rear for 100 bucks..but i want that as a last resort.. thanks...
