when i hit the gas the fuel pressure drops down to about 22 psi, at high rpms it stays at a certain power band, and will not pull any more.
set up stock bottom end, worked stock heads w/ 1.7 r.r, e-cam, 36's, e.b intake, powerdyne 6psi.
ran w/out s.c belt and still had same prob. set-up orginally came off auto trans, ran fine w/ no fmu, or external pump. think its tha prob jus want 2nd opinion
A BUDDY TOLD ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM W/ A WIDE OPEN FUEL RELAY IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. HE TOLD ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE TO CHANGE A RELAY BEING THAT I DID A 4 CLY CONV. HAVE ANY BODY HEARD OF THIS???
THIS IS A 1990 W/ THE 1 PLUG HARNESS ON IT
OK NOW I HAVE ADDED THE EXTERNAL PUMP, AND I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM W/ LOSSING POWER AT TOP END!! IT HESITATES APPROX. 3500-5500 RPMS. I CAN FEATHER INTO THE GAS AND GET THE CAR TO MOVE, BUT WHEN I STOMP ON IT, IT FALLS ON ITS FACE.....
WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL

If you are running an external pump then it isn't working. Had the same issue with my car. Get underneath the back of the car and see if you can hear it running.

what you can do is pinch off the fuel return line and it should build pressure if it doesnt you need a pump if it does you need a regulator

the big line is the in coming fuel line, and the small is the return line.

I had the same problem years ago, with a Ford Motorsport 190 fuel pump, the FMU would spike the fuel pressure to 100psi, which caused the 190 fuel pump to lock up and drop fuel pressure to like 20psi from time to time, thats why I dont like FMUs and I would never use a Ford Motorsport 190 fuel pump.
