so.
im buyin a jet boat. that has a 460 in it. Can anyone give me any kind of advice as to what these motors are lacking...or what works good on them....?? anything at all is appriciated.

a good set of heads wakes them right up. if you want to stay with iron look for a set of 429scj from 1970 or 71 or there are some good after market aluminum availible

Post up what it has now. I have been told in the past that jet boats can only do so much and a ton of HP wont make much difference.... I dont know that for a fact but its what I have been told.

what do you guys think cam wise.....would a cam help out at all?? from what i know its a stock 460 that was re-ringed and beringed 2 years ago. the carb and manifold and electronics are recent...its got a holley 780, and a tunnel ram.
springs, cam, some roller rockers??

have you driven it on the water yet? It might already have enough power. Going fast on the water is more dangerous than going fast in a car. Becareful!

Nice boat! I have a project 77' Hawaiian that I am putting a 460 in. I am doing Bassett headers, a cam, D0VE heads, and an edelbrock intake. What kind of boat is that?

jet boats generally have a narrower powerband (i believe) tailor your parts around your particular rpm range to get the most from it. look into if torque or hp is more desireable on a boad (again, i dont know anything about boats, just motors)
match your cam and intake to your operating range, and if hp>tq, go for the largest flowing heads available

what would a tunnel ram intake be good for tq or hp? im going to go with tq....???
i think im going to put a mild cam in it, with some springs.... a set of roller rockers, get the carb and timing good...and call it a day...??

If you want to go fast on the water you bought the wrong type of boat. You are going to get smoked buy most the Bass boats out there LOL. Why don't you just enjoy it for what it is.

umm.... why dont you enjoy your 91 LX the was it was....with a stock 5.0.. whyd you have to stroke it? and put a charger on it??

a tunnel ram will help with hp in the upper rpm range. what heads do you have? they will make the biggest difference.you already have plenty of torque you may want to spend some money on your jet pump

yes...i was thinking the same. THEY ARE EXPENSIVE! as you can see its a berkley pump...just not sure of the impeller and all that. as far as the pump what do you think?? place diverter? jetovator? droop snoot? maybe a intake grate...??
im not to sure what the difference is between a place diverter and a jetovator is. i will be putting on a 3.5* snoot, and an intake grate...the sound easy enough to install...

it has to lope good tho. what do you think the lift on the stock springs are good for? or what should i limit myself to on the lift side of a cam??

its not my boat yet... but i belive its a stock 460. with the intake and carb...

the pich on the impeller is important, the higher the pich the more top speed in conjunction with the other components check with a shop that specialises in pumps they can set it up exactly how you want it.comp cams makes a good section for this application. GOOD HEADS. boats are a bottomless pit

the reason I said this is jets need a tone of money to go fast(in the pump area) and they will never go as fast as a V drive with the same mods(which most fast boats have). On my 91 I didn't start out buy getting a car you couldn't modify to make as fast as everybody elses. I like your boat and that is just my opinion . $pend away

i agree. V drives are where its at if you want to go fast....pumps ARE NOT effeciant. V drives in this boats condition dont cost $4k either... lol
