The motor is out of the car. So how do I turn the cams to put the chains on without the tool that fits in the back of the cams? Also, how do you tighten the cam bolts to 95ft-lbs with something holding the cams? I know I can use a 3/8 extension, to fit the D-slots in the rear of the cams, but I read somewhere that you can also strip those doing it that way.

I already have a guy coming over on Sunday. He said that as long as I have the chains and sprockets on the cams he would do it. I guess I will have to use the 3/8 extension to do it since no one has the proper tools. Anything else I should be aware of when putting them on? Thanks!

after youre done rotate engine around many times.it is an interference engine.if you rotate the motor around by hand then the motor will just stop if the timing is off.if you do it with the motor installed then bad things will happen if the timing is off.

The guy that is setting up my cams used to work at downtown ford. Now he works at Hubacher Cadillac so he doesnt have access to all the tools anymore. If he falls through I will definitely take you up on your offer to help me and I will give you some cash and beer for the job.

Hey if you could take some notes on how the guy does it that would be great should be doing my heads next week. Had an artical in a magazine on how to do it with just the 3/8 socket in the back but can't find it.

That is the way we did it today. I used a breaker bar with a 3/8 extension into the d-slot on the back of the cams. The problem doing it this way is that the d-slot can strip or break the back og the cam. What we did was first tighten the cam bolt to 30ft-lbs then 55ft-lbs then 85ft-lbs. That was when it started to feel like the d-slot might start to strip so we left it at that. The whole job of timing the cams was pretty easy and only took about an hour.
