I'm replacing the motor mounts on my convertable. My question is, would it be easier to do while I have the tranny out, or should I put the tranny back in and then do the mounts. Of course I'll have more room to work without the trans, I just worry about balancing the motor on only one mount while the other gets switched out. i don't see why it would really matter. you can do it either way. if the tranny is out.. just get a cherry picker and lift the egine(after loosening the motormouts) a couple of inches. that should give plenty of room. Good luck.

if you are not pulling the motor i would bolt up the trans. it helps keep the motor align [ January 19, 2006, 09:24 PM: Message edited by: Cstang50 ]

I would just pull the motor, change the mounts, and put the motor and trany back in together.

Pulling the motor isn't an option. I've unbolted one mount and tomarrow I'll frame up a support from 2X4's to hold the motor steady while I swap the mounts. My chiltons said I'd have to disconnect linkage and move a crossmember. Thanks for the advice though, I would pull the motor and tranny as one if I ever have to do this again.
