I would get something that goes in the fenderwell forsure. That way you are getting cold air. A cone sits in the engine compartment and sucks in all of the hot air from the motor.

What do you mean it has felt hot? How can you feel it? Your probably better off having the stock air box instead a ricer cone. Fenderwell cold air kits are better. Sounds kinda ghetto, but I made a fake ram air kit out of duct fitting. It sticks out of the bottom of the bumper on the passenger side, and flows up to the fender well filter. I dont know if it does much, but it cant hurt anything. Looks almost like the real ram air kit, just painted it black

The air that is flowing threw the housing is probably a way different temp than the actual housing. The air a cone sucks in from the engine compartment is already hot for sure. The air will be cooler coming from the fenderwell. Your right about metal housing getting hotter. Its usally chrome to, and chrome holds heat. I have never liked that about them, but I dont know if it makes much difference if any. Heres the real, and expensive ram air kit.

Check out this web site
http://www.knfilters.com/search/univcone.aspx
You should be able to find one that fits your application.
$140? Was that for a CAI or just the filter? You should be able to pick up the filter from Summit Racing for under $50.
I think I saw a couple of people selling fender mount CAI's on this site. You can probably pick on up for under $100 used.

I have a CAI with an exposed connical air filter. Never had any problems with the chrome "pipe" getting hot at all.

Wholy crap...just put on the stock box with a k&n filter in it.
Stock box at junk yard = $7 K&N panel filter ebay = $35 Not looking like RICE = Priceless
The difference in HP between having a fenderwell mounted one or one mounted in the stock box is so minimal you wont tell the difference...I'd take a guess on maybe 1 1/2 hp.

Just curious, but when did a polished CAI setup become "rice"? That's like saying someones polished/chrome air cleaner on their old school ride is "rice".
Should all these guys that chrome/polish out their engine bay stop and use satin/matte finished items?
Maybe no one should use chrome/polished rims either because those too can be found on "rice".
Can someone please explain this to me, because I really don't understand?

Get a K&N flat panel filter and stuff it in the OEM box. It's cheap and does the same trick from pulling air in the fenderwell.

Personally I don't like the cone in the engine bay thats why I said rice...otherwise everything else is fair game...shit I wish I could afford to chrome out my motor..I think it can look really good. But an exposed cone filter in the bay just seems out of place to me.

I said rice filter because after the whole import thing started happening, every auto part store in the country started stock pileing cone filters in all colors, shapes, and sizes. So now when I seen them I think of ricers, because you never really used to see blue, red, chrome ect..filters. But, thats just me. As long as it gets the job done who cares.
