How much modding can I do while still using the speed dinsity setup on an 87 5.0? Will exhaust, cold air intake, and aftermarket (Cobra or GT40) intakes be ok with it, or will it be better with a maf setup?

Im glad you asked that, im waiting on my 347 stroker motor, and I have no idea how it will run with speed density. I have bigger injectors cam, ported heads, and intake. I was going to convert to mass air, but ran out of money.

An intake is iffy, some cars work some don't. Cams never work. Heads are also iffy. If you want to be safe, you can do everything but heads intake cam or boost with the stock speed density stuff.

Probably not going to run very good with stock speed density...fyi [Wink]

there aren't many mods that work to there full potential w/ speed density. maybe exhaust and pullies but things like intakes, cams, heads, injectors. the computer doesn't seem them any different then stock. speed density is just data tables not a learning system like mass air. i'd convert before spending money on mods, all you will do is make the car run really poorly and you will hate it.

I'd probably stay with the stock intake manifold until you get heads with the SD system....

The best mods would be gears, pulleys, off road mid pipe for a stock SD system

Okay I have a speed density 88 5.0 in my datsun. I think i have timing problems but after reading this post I wonder if it might be the fact that i took off the intake and fabbed up my own. My problem is that I haul off the line but once I hit 3,000 rpm in any gear I bog big time. Usually I get off the gas or change gears when this happens. But once I held the pedal down through it and after some sputtering it worked through it. Any of you guys think it might be because of the speed density set up?

a lot of SD combos are on here http://www.50tech.com/

your main concern will be the cam. crower 15511 works very well with speed density. Thats the cam i have in my car (not running yet [dance] ). Some people say injectors are a problem and some dont, i guess ill have to find that out on my own in the next couple of months.

you should be fine with the mods you want and speed density.
