I think the oil was left in the hose under the intake. What would cause the pcv valve to blow all that oil into the intake and what could I do to prevent it thanks casey

Pressure build-up in the cranckcase will force oil up and through the pcv valve; only then to be sucked into the intake. That is usually why oil will end up puddling in the upper intake. Too much cranckcase pressure can cause excessive blow-by which is bad. But, since most cars of the pushrod age have a poorly designed pcv valve system, and the motors are usually 15 or so years old, this kind of stuff is somewhat normal.

I am testing out an oil seperator that I made using the same materials Steeda uses to make their $60 piece. You could try that method and you won't have the puddling/smoking problem. But it may only cover up bigger problems if your motor is old.
My little experiment has not yeilded any results yet so I am thinking my pcv system is working well and good. Easy way to see if you have excess pressure in the cranckase though.
