its been a problem for a little while... every time i turn it on in the mornings i have to gas so it wont turn off.

what are some common problems for this symptom?

X cam with stock heads and intake?

yup, and i got a good price for part and installation combined,,,,,


but back to my question my fp is at 40... any clues as to what it might be, vacume leak???

It could be a vacuum leak or a timing issue. Did the problem start before you installed the cam or after the cam was installed?

time the car to 10 degrees with the spout out and turn down the fp to about 32 vacuum off. then start the car. Work upwards from that point to see if you can solve the problem. Those two things are easy to mess with so try that first.

Otherwise just do a basic tune-up and check all the basics... Clean all your connections etc.

May want to have the TFI module on the distributor checked also.

im confused,,, my problem is not with the car not starting it just wants to turn off after a little for like 5 secs i have to gas it... after that it runs fine and when it hasn't been sitting over night it fires right up no gas pedal

very common symptom of bad TFI module in the distributor, when the car is warm it will idle normally, but when its cold it wont idle without giving it gas.
