ok, so i got a B&M deep pan. I am ready to get to work and have the "a" servo, shiftkit and deeper pan put on. How many qts of tranny fluid will i need? the B&M thing says "capacity increase 3qts" so that means.. 3 more qts than with the stock unit. right?
what type of tranny fluid should i use? is it safe to use those additives that prevent/fix leaks? i might do it to prevent future headaches.. thanks
JErsey

If the trans is completely empty, it takes 12-13 qts stock. Your's should take about 15.

Use Mercon/Dextron 3 fluid.

Additives that are used to swell the seals are a temporary fix until the leak can be fixed correctly. If you don't have a leak, don't use the stuff.

i would spend the extra and go synthetic...only if it is completely empty though.

everyone is going w/ synthetic blends now to keep cost down...but way back when ...when synthetics first came out they said not to mix....as the conventional oil breaks down the synthetic.

now it seems like they all make blends to satisfy the people who refuse to spend the coin.

Sorry Bob, I don't agree. Synthetic fluids are designed to make things slip, and that is not what you want an automatic to do. Incorrect fluids have the ability to release the friction material from the steel backing plate. If you want, you can use Mercon 5 (synth blend), but I would never use a synthetic fluid in an automatic unless it called for it from the factory. I have built probably 1500-2000 trannies in my career, and only since 2003 have any Ford trannies required full synth. fluid (6.0L Torqshift).

thanks.
I finally finished installing the shift kit and deeper pan.
I have a question. I put on 13qts of tranny fluid and drove around for a bit. came back to check the fluid level and it was way above where it should be.
Should i drain it to the normal level? i don't understand how this could have happened? i mean...it's supposed to take just about that with the stock pan. how could i have overfilled it if it even has a deeper pan?
How do i know if the tranny was compeltly empy to begin with? i took the filter and valve body off and the thing drained completly.
thanks.
