saw this on stangparts.com while researching a t-5 swap....
"(As point of reference, a T-5 pirated from an earlier Mustang will work just as well. In fact, the part unique to the SN95 Mustang is its transmission crossmember.)"
the article came out of a MM&FF mag in like '99 or so..

The article suggests that I would be able to find a foxbody and swap everything over, save for the x-member... I'm just wondering what I "have" to buy vs what cant wait till later...

I know that the 94/95' that the engine moved forward a bit, and that the input shaft is 3/4in longer than on the foxbodies. I also know that the bell housing is different as well.

I actually put a 94/95 tranny in my fox body. Just need to change the input shaft for it to work. All you'll need to do is the opposite of what I did. Convert the fox body input shaft to the 94/95 input shaft. Keep in mind 93-95 tranny's have a higher torque rating so if you go back to far you will have a weaker tranny. Get nothing earlier than a tranny from a '90 mustang.

will a fox's bellhousing work then?
I'm just wondering since I have a source to buy the input shaft from and the 94/95 bellhousing as well...
forgive my ignorance, i'm just trying to correctly understand the article out of MM&FF

no, just use the 94/95 bellhousing after you change the input shaft.
