Wsup guys, my problem is the temp is getting really hot, but not overheating. On the temp guage it sits 3 quartars of the way up, but it settels thier it does not fluctuate. Its not leaking, I dont think the heater core is bad (still blows hot, and no coolant in the car). I have a cuple of ideas on what it might be. But any further input would be very helpfull, thanks. Assuming this is just and all of a sudden thing I'd have toguess it has something to do with the water pump. A cheap trick to lower temperature is a new T-stat as well although it does't sound like this will solve your problem. I was running at 200 degrees with the stock 197 thermostat in there but just switched to a 160 and run barely above 150* now. Definately well worth the switch but I'm thinking your water pump might be having issues if this is an all of the sudden thing [patriot]

I'd say that yes you need to check the water pump....another thing you might want to check out first is your fan...could be worn or their could be some blockage in front of the radiator. Does it get hot at idle only or does it do this while your driving too?

If you see steam coming up at the driver's side of the front window it might be a heater core issue.

Yep, the fan clutch on 5.0's is always over looked...The clutches in the fan wear out, especially if yours is the original 1986 fan...I'd either buy an electric fan or a new thermostatic fan clutch...

A new T-stat and coolant flush are cheap and worth while too.... [patriot]

Thanks for the advice guys. Is thier any way to test these parts, waterpump, t-stat, ect... I was thinking Clutch Fan also, but it still spins freely, could the Fan be bad if it still spins? Also one more question, is thier any other symptoms I can look out for. [patriot] [patriot]

Well your fan clutch will always spin freely. Fans that are worn out usually spin too freely meaning that when the clutch engages you are not getting the same RPM's that you would get from a good fan clutch. Usually you should feel some resistance to spining it on a good clutch and little with a worn clutch. If your t-stat was stuck closed you'd know it after driving just a short period of time. The car wouldn't get to far without overheating. If you change it I wouldn't go any colder than a 180 degree. The computer expects to see 190 or so and if it is only seeing 160 than the computer still thinks the car is warming up. Which in effect sends a different value back to the computer through the ECT sensor. Ever seen the gas milage on a car with a stuck open thermostat? It is horrible and you can see a milder version with a 160 T-stat. Car is programmed to run richer through the computer during warm up. Lastly I've found the stock gauges to be the problem a lot of time. I always stick an autometer probe into the coolant just to make sure it is actually overheating.

my clutch fan was stuck when it was broken, but this might just be a faulty gauge, I think you should try and get the temperature through other means, like an autometer gauge or something make sure your gauge isn't the problem, unless the motor feels incredibly hot to you [patriot]

Wsup guys, alright I flushed/changed the cooolant, repaliced both upper/lower hoses, bought a Radiator cap, t-stat 180*. I checked the fan and it feels fine, spins freely with a little resistance. But it still runs hot, I dont think its the gauge because the temp sits a little lower after I changed those parts

Do you think its the waterpump, Radiator, temp sender, gauge [Confused] [Mad]

PS, Thanks for all the help guys. [patriot]

Hmmm, any ideas of what triggered the high temp? Was there a mod done around the time that it got hot? What did the gauge read before? Are you running an underdrive pulley on the water pump? Do you have an old set of cats on the car. Maybe their plugged? I'd really get an autometer probe in the coolant before you spend too much more money.

No, the only mod I have are flows, but that is a very big possibilty that one of the cats are cloged. Im going to put a o/r h-pipe on and I wll deffinilty get an autometer probe.

Thank you very much for the all help man. I wil let you know the out come. [worship] [worship]
