Heres the ONLY thing I think it could be next to an internal issue (motor) or valve train noise. Do you have cats on the car? I've heard this sound before when a cat explodes and the remainder of the cat biscuit rattles and makes a hell of a noise. Could be that if you have cats. Pull your H-pipe off and see what falls out. I am hoping you have cats because if not than it can't be anything good.

Hmm well put the car on jack stands and try and figure out the general area where the noise is coming from. It's likely that the backfire you heard was a lean backfire resulting from the nitrous. Has the car been tuned on the NOS? If it sounds like a noise from the motor itself check over all the pullies to make sure it isn't that though I doubt after listening to it, it is that. After that run and leak down and compression test on the motor.

to check the pulleys, for a short amount of time, take the belt of the car, start it, and rev it once or twice, if the sound is gone then hey, its something to do with an accesories, since it is a newerd car it might through a code, but i dont think it will, but unsure
one thing i can say is it is dependent on rpm, when the rpm goes up its gets faster, and when rpm drops it drops consistently
so what ever it is, its not just a simple rattle, its a bearing, valve train noise
it sounds like valvetrain noisy to me, where its coming from in a sohc motor i am unsure
maybe stick ur head close to each valve cover and see if u can figure out which side its coming from

ok... i took off the belt and started the car and it is still making the noise when u step on the gas... i cant really tell where exactly the sound is comming from though. [ February 08, 2004, 06:53 PM: Message edited by: OneLethalGT ]

SOunds like alot of valve train noise.. pull the valve covers off and check it out.. if the valve train looks ok.. then it is somthing internal..Good luck bro.

To help isolate the noise, take a cardboard poster tube or a hose from a vacuum cleaner etc... and put it up to your hear and put the other end in dfferent points around the engine. You'll know when you get close to the noise source because it will get significantly louder. Good luck!

to metallic sounding, and so depended on rpm that i would hardly doubt it
something i thought about
pull the spark plugs out and check them all, u might have melted one when u hit the nitrous, maybe u were so lean that a tip just burnt off and it rattling around, its a long shot but its just 10 minutes to pull all the plugs
it doesnt sound like a rod bearing or main journal, it sounds like a matallic clank
check the spark plugs and let us know
