I am re-building an '88 302 and I don't have the Oil-Pressure sensor/sender, could I just use an Auto Meter Electric Oil Pressure sensor in place of the OEM one?

The Auto Meter Electrical gauges includes sender, 1/8" and 1/4" NPT fittings. Is this all I would need to use this in place of the OEM fitting? Or would I need to find a OEM oil press. sensor and make a T-fitting for the Auto-meter gauge? This is what many people I talked to did to install an A.Meter gauge to their high-mileage, all-sensor-having motors.

Has anyone used ONLY the autometer gauge oil pressure sender without the OEM sensor and T-fitting? Is it possible?

no it is not possible, the resistance values are different per each gauge.... go to kragen and buy a stock sending unit..

So the resistance values of the Autometer Gauge + the OEM gauge are different? How are 5.0 people using them? I know the stock Oil Pressure gauge sucks, I mean N O R M A L is across the whole thing is ridiculous IMO. I personally want PSI values and I wouldn't mind paying $50 for it.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering how people hook it up w/o the stock sensor. Can't this be done?

So; what you are saying is that you don't want to hook up the stock guage at all? Just have it read nothing?

If so; I don't see why you would need two sensors.

Just install your new one and wire it up to your new guage. The connection from the old guage (pointer...) would just sit there un-connected.

I don't know this for a fact however. Perhaps someone more knowedgable will dispute me. Maybe the engines computer monitors oil pressure and would shut the engine down without a signal? (Sounds like a good idea...but I doubt it...)

BTW...does anyone know of an after-market REAL GUAGE that would fit into the dash in place of the stock one? I assume that the one that is referred to here mounts on the windshield pillar or in some other non-stock position???
