Holleys 300-574 165cc 71cc 63cc
flow number:@.5 lift 228 / 164
Valves:2.02" 1.60" pedestal 5/16"
maxlift: .600"
I have bbk cold air, 70mm throttle, cobra intake, the rest of the engine is stock. running headers, xpipe and flowies with 4:10 gears. How do you think these heads will perform? HP gain?
are there some you would suggest over these with a price cap of around $1500?
lastly...can i still use these head once i go to a 331 stroker??

Those heads are just 'okay' 302 heads for a mild to medium build up. If you have a 331 planned, get some Trick Flow Twisted Wedge's or AFR 185's given your $1500 price cap.

I feel you should ask people that have actually used them.
They would say otherwise.
Some guy on stangnet uses them on a vert heavy sn-95 and runs low 12's.
There is someone else here that is having a motor built with these heads on this board.
I wouldn't consider a mild 5.0 one that puts out 350 hp from some box stock heads as do the cars that have the complete systemax kit.
I'm not saying they are the best but certainly not the worst. Basicly flow the same as performer heads.
A port job would really wake them up later on. [ December 19, 2003, 06:45 PM: Message edited by: Fostang ]

Hey i got to drive the car around for about 1 day, (ran into 1 small prob so i had to take it back) but the car feels real healthy with those heads, my car is set up for boost though and my compression is only around 8.3-4 with those heads on there. Ill let you know once i get the car back fully. I went with the heads since they were supposed to make the best low speed torque increase across the board. The HP was not very far off from the AFR but the decinding factor was torque for my streetcar.
Omg the sound is totally different with the car though with the holley intake and heads. Fuckin sounds like a beast

306ci89Vert- Any dyno numbers for your setup? If you're running ~10 lbs of boost, I'd expect somewhere in the lower to mid 400 rwhp range. These heads are really comprable to the revised Edelbrock performer heads.

I was going with the same basic set up as 306 has.
S trim and even the crower cam.
Now all of it is up for sell except the s trim.
I'm going with a 347 CHP engine with vic jr heads and of course 10psi of boost with the water injection.

If your going to build a 331 later and have a price cap of 1500 I would definately go with the AFR 185s, they are about 1300. I have the 165s and they make great power, but with the 331 you want the 185s. Take a look at the MM&FF cylinder head comparison tests. They will tell you everything you need to know about all of the heads mentioned in this post.

check pm's, just for referance, mark and i did a car with ford y- heads e-303 cam, STOCK throttle body and intake manifold. At 8 pounds of boost with a MILD street tune it made over 400 rear wheel hp. [ December 25, 2003, 01:08 PM: Message edited by: jmcclesk ]
