My T-Top had the section of metal that's covering your opening cut off when I got it. Not quite sure why this happens, but what year is your car?

my fox was the same way...nothing more than a small pain in the ass when installing your shifter bolts in the front location....nothing to worry about.

I trimed it with tin snips. My trans wouldn't lift up high enough in the tunnel until I trimed it.

Exactly what I did. The tunnels are different from AOD to 5-speed cars. There is a stamped steel conversion piece that you rivet on there after trimming the hole. Once installed the stamped piece has the holes for the lower shift boot to be installed. Without it you won't have a lower shift boot and will get wind, noise and heat up through the upper shift boot. I don't think that Ford offers the conversion piece any longer. I got one of the last ones that Charlie Bruno had (Charlie's Mustangs) before he died. You can also hack the piece out of a junker 5-speed.
Sean.

I don't think mine sits above the trans tunnel. As I recall, with the shifter base on, it was about even with the tunnel.

Doesn't seem normal to me and I have never heard of anyone doing AOD to five speed conversions having any problems like that. Maybe it is because your car was a 4cyl

That's because your car was an automatic, It's normal. I had to do that in my coupe, It's way easier if you do it before the tranny is in. But I did it with the tranny in. I got a dremel, taped off the tranny so no metal shavings got inside, And then cut away. You're getting closer!
