most aftermarket cams mess with the engine vacuum which messes with the way the s/d "measures" air. Since it doesn't actually measure the air coming into the engine like a mass air system does, it will cause very ruff idle(if it will even idle). I didn't bother to read up on s/d to much because i was going to switch to mass air anyways, but i think the way s/d works is it measures the pressure in the intake(through the map sensor) and it reads off some pre-set charts that are in the computer to find out how much fuel and such to make the car go.

although you can have a custom chip burned for the s/d system that will allow your car to run fine, but if you change anything on the engine you will have to get a new chip burned to compensate for the change. And since its so cheap to convert to mass air, its a real no brainer if you are thinking of putting lots of mods on your car.

well i dont know for a bronco because it probly has a different wiring harness, but for my mustang it took about 5 hours to do. i got my instructions from http://www.corral.net/tech/powerplant/maf_tech_2.html

but that probly wont help for the bronco because the pins you have to move will probly be different.

i dont really understand what you mean by the "specifics". Do you mean what you need to get the job done? if so it tells you in that link. Hope this helps.

Speed Density does not suck. The accel dfi setup and other Hi Performance fuel injection systems work off the speed density theory. There is a $85-90 harness that you can buy that piggy backs the stock s/d computer and allows you to use a mass air meter. You can find mass air meters anywhere.

I hope that the 351 is modified on the Bronco...If your friend is simply installing a MAF sensor set up becuase he thinks its just better than speed density he's gonna loose horse power....If the Bronco is modified with atleast a cam then he will benefit...

It is at the time being. He wants to add headers and a ignition kit but doesnt know if that would mess with the s/d. he heard different stories from people so.. Im just asking for him..

Just headers and ignition is not worth spending the time and money on a MAF conversion...

I did the conversion on my '86 GT...It cost me like $300 and made me slower...I used to constantly race my friends car...I found after the conversion I was about a car and a 1/2 compared to how I was before...

Yea? well hes not sure what the headers will do cuz one of his friends who had a bronco had speed density and he put headers on and it ran like shit so now being how unsure my friend is he doesnt want to do anything till he has the MAF. Thank you guys for your input.. much appreciated [patriot] [worship]

Speed Density will win.

This is true, I proved it at the track, 14.9 @ 90mph VS 14.6 @ 94, The airflow difference is HUGE, but a aftermarket mass air meter will make up for most of this.
