Has anyone installed the battery in their trunk and had a idle problem? I did the same install on my 90 Vert WITH mass air and had no problems, however on my 87 Speed density car I just did it today and had a major idle problem, also the fuel pump seems a lot louder than it was before. I am sure there is a issue with the fuel pump/ or fuel pressure. The car idles really bad and dies and then has a hard time starting, however if you pump the gas some you can get it to start and as long as you keep the rpms over 1500 it will run. I trying going around the block but driviblity is not good with the idle problem. Anyone know what might be up with the Battery install effecting the idle/ or fuel pump?

Sounds like either your electrical connections aren't as "strong" as they need to be or your power wires are too thin.

Do you have a digital volt meter? (and know how to use it?)

Definitely a grounding problem. You'll need to run a ground from the negative on the battery to a rear frame rail and also connecto a ground up front from the timing cover to the sway bar mount. The more grounds the better.

did you crimp the connectors or did you dump about a 1/4 pound of solder into the 1/0 welding cable? [Big Grin]

are the crimps good? (I had one pull away once, but soldered the crap out of it later)

also--- where did you ground the battery?

How could his idle problem be connected to his battery? Wouldn't the battery JUST start the car and from there the alternator would take over?

Ok I have checked everything and it all seems to be hooked up right, voltage is good all over the car, grounds seem good, is the fuel pump just too far from the battery to get the right power? I don't know a lot about why it would be doing this. PLEASE HELP! [Frown]

where the old battery ground was (timing cover to the battery), did you ground that somewhere? Is the engine grounded somewhere from that main line to the frame rail???

Yes it most surely is, sway bar mount right next to it...

Try running an additional ground strap from the block to the framerail.
