it makes a horrible rattling/scraping noise when i get on it in 2nd and 3rd gear. i think its coming from the tailhousing somewhere. it used to just do it in 2nd, but just this weekend it started to do it in 3rd too. it also whines constantly, more after its being driven for a while. its not the driveshaft scraping either. is my tranny about to blow?

Sounds like it's on it's way out.
You can pro-long the end by changing the fluid with either Redline or GM Syncromesh. If you've already got either of those in there.....good luck! I hope you have AAA.

BTW, did you shim the rockers? Any difference?

Right there with you bro [Mad] That 2nd gear grind sucks when you're trying to bang gears. Third just started to be a prob about a week ago for me. Is the scraping sound all the time? I have a srcaping and at the end it kinda sounds like a thump. Hopefully I can get my taxs done before it die. As for now I just stay in town and try not to get on it.

How many miles/passes are on these T5's?

Just want to see where mine stands. Its doing fine now, but I'm sure it wont last when the new motor sits infront of it [Wink]

I am in the same boat as you, the stocker T5 won't like the 500+ hp even with only 40k on it. TKO here I come!

i have 81k miles on mine. it has never seen a powershift or a missed shift. my car is probably pushing 250-260rwhp. it has only been to the track 4 times, never on slicks. i think it started to go downhill after the fms extender that took out the shift retard.

The extender theory could be a good posibility. My shift retard has never been removed, the tranny has 125,000 miles on it, a little over 400 passes, and numerous missed shifts. I figure I'm making in the neighborhood of 300 RWHP (probably a little less).

62,000 miles 2 pass at track, but most my driving is in town. I like to take it out and push it in the turns on the weekends. Didn't buy the car new so who knows how it was drivin before.

HungryHippo's car is an SN95. The T5 tranny from a fox is different than a SN95. Stupid Ford [BS flag]

i have 200K +/- on my T4 Tranny and in 3rd and 4th gear i hear a grinding noise like some gears are moving without oil. A tranny guy told me that theres a plate in between my Dana 300 and t4 that is commonly known to break and rattle like that. Anyone ever heard of that? I am saving up for a NV4500 my tranny is starting to leak fluid now [Frown]
