Have the cam degreed. You can lose hp or torque if it doesn't line up. This will just get the most out of the cam. .02

Yeah, definately degree that sucker. I've seen too many that were off by 4+ degrees.

So I gathered that you do not have to take off the front bumper cover to do a cam swap?

IMHO, +/- 1 or 2 degrees from the cam card is probably "close enough", but WTF do I know, lol.
I installed a cam that was ~5 to 5.5 degrees advanced from where it should have been, retarded it 4 degrees so now it's only advanced 1 to 1.5 degrees effectively. No big deal, IMHO. The smallest adjustment crank keyway is +/- 2 degrees so you're pretty much screwed if you can't deal with +/- 1 degree. [ January 19, 2003, 03:47 PM: Message edited by: shade-tree ]

Nope, pulling the radiator gives enough room. Go slow and careful pulling the old one out and sliding the new one. Think virgin...

+/- 1 degree is acceptable. & if you really know what your doing, you can get it within 1 degree with any of those 9-position timing chains. FYI, any new timing chain will retard itself a 1-2 degrees after ~500miles of so.

Do we have to be careful with the lifters? Is there a chance of them falling into the block?

Yes. IF you're using the magnetic lifter tools, be carefull not to bump them while the cam is out. If you don't use the tools, you MUST remove the lifters, which means removing the lower intake manifold.

Seen it happen. They had to drop the oil pan (not completely remove it) & use a magnet to get it out. It's a big setback to say the least.

Summit sells a degree kit. Comes with piston stop, degree wheel, dial indicator, magnetic base, & instructions that you shouldn't follow cause they're not accurate.
