Ive got a 91 mustang with a vortech 6 psi supercharger, flowmasters, and gears. When I put the blower on, my timing was at 10 degrees. Once the car got to about 4000 RPM, it started pinging like crazy. I retarded the timing all the way to 6 degrees and im still having a slight detonation problem. Any ideas? Could this be due to having a stock fuel pump?

Are you running a BTM? What about an FMU? FMU's and stock fuel pumps don't mix.

No BTM yet. I have the FMU that came with the blower. Will a 255lph pump solve the problem, or am I going to have to buy other things as well?

91 5.0,
You need to get a Walbro GSS-340 intank pump(255lph). That should solve your fuel problems, but if it doesn't then you should get a set of 30's and a MAF calibrated for them.
You may also be able to increase your base timing once you get your fuel problems solved.

I would get a 255 intankd and a adjustable fuel presure regulator and if its still has the prob get some 30# injectors with the MAF

I had the same problem, I upgraded to 255 pump, 30# jeets and MAF, even at 6 base timing i still had pinging....even upping the fuel pressure didnt help.....there were no vacuum leaks, no codes I couldnt figure it out and it cost em a motor Tmie for a dyno tune with the new motor

I suggest ditching the 19#'s and getting some 30# injectors and a bigger fuel pump(doesnt the Vortech kit come with a 255LPH?,T-Rex? I guess only the S-trim 8lbs kit does?).. When you order the MAF sensor to match the injectors, its a good idea to make sure the people you order the MAF from know you car is supercharged. 91 5.0,
There is a cure and your car will not blow as long as everything is setup properly.
What spark plugs are you running and what are they gapped at? You really should get a chip or a BTM to control the spark advance. I'd also recomend changing your fuel filter if it has not been changed in the past 15k miles

There is a cure to your problem, but in my case something else was causeing the pinging. This is what byron told me. He said there should have been no reason for me to ping at 6degrees with 30# jets and an FMU calibrated for them. My case was maybe a burnt valve on my number 4 cylinder....that was the cylinder that dropped a rod but defiently get the fuel system squared away.

With 6 psi you should be able to get buy nicely with STOCK injectors. Just put in a 255 intank, re check the gap on the plugs, change your fuel filter, and you should be able to get 8 degrees out of it properly tuned up.
I am assuming that you do not have heads, cam, etc.
I have had 8 pounds of boost on 5 different stangs that all had STOCK injectors with 255 intanks.

with 6 psi I can only run 8 degrees of timing? I was hopin for a bit more than that. The rest of my car is basically stock. So stock injectors and 255 will be sufficient? Ive got a 255 on the way. How about an adjustable fuel press. regulator?

91 5.0,
If you can get a BTM you will make alot more power "under the curve" if you raise your initial timing to 12-14 and set the BTM accordingly. I'd thik you'd be able to run 25-26 degrees total, but the only way to find out it fix your problems and then go test it.

you will have to see how your setup responds to advanced timing. You won't notice much of a difference going from 8-12 degrees of timing.
