My friend says he will sell me a Explorer upper and lower intake from a 96 explorer 5.0. my question is this intake better than the stock 5.0 intake from a 87-93 mustang. will it make much of a difference on my car that only has a 70mm air meter and catback 2.5" exhaust? also what upper to lower 1/2 inch spacer gasket will work on it. i heard its the same as a 93 cobra intake. he will sell it to me for 100 i just wanna know if its worth the trouble of changing.

thats a reasonable deal!
you can use the cobra intake 1/2 or 3/8 spacer. (gt40,cobra,explorer have identical lower plenums).i get it if i had the money..
if not hit me up i'll throw him a $120 [Wink]
you should get like 15 hp with your set up.
but remember for all the air you get into your pony ,you gotta let it out-headers/off road x/h-pipe.
good deal [worship]

It's a cast GT40 intake. Flows very similar to the Cobra & GT40 intakes. The differences are the sensors/sensor ports in the intake & the lack of an EGR port.

As for gains....maybe 10HP up top with a lose of a few lbs of torque down low. The stock heads are a bottleneck.

96 5.0 explorer all emission standard and 97 federal emissions standars have the integeral egr port and will work with egr spacer like stock intake. the easiest indicator is if the explorer has an egr tube or not, if no tube has integeral egr port

It flows less than the GT40 or Cobra intake by a few CFM, yet considerable better than the stock intake. Its a great intake for heads that flow 180-200 cfm on the intake.

I hear that they are pretty cheap. They are supposed to flow just as much as the cobra intake. Anything is better than stock.

It doesn't flow quite as well but is more torque tuned, for more user friendly hp and torque that the explorer needed

I think any differences between/among the GT-40, cobra, and explorer have more to do with production variances than anything else. The upper and lower are all from the same basic molding.
