Topic: Losing coolant somehow?

I don't see any leaks anywhere, nor do I smell coolant while driving. Lately I have been having to add coolant every few days or it'll run hot. If it's low on coolant the temp. will go way up on the gauge when the thermostat opens (but not overheating in "the red", almost), then it'll go down to about halfway on the gauge after about a minute (normally it runs about 1/4 of the way or less on the gauge). I also lost some when the car was down for about 4 days when I was installing the new clutch/quadrant/driveshaft. I'm guessing that it's evaporating somehow, but I don't know. It's also not burning off from leaking because I don't see steam, nor do I see remnants of a leaky coolant mess. Any suggestions or ideas I should try?

Check the water neck gasket. A lot of times people will change there thermostats and not seal it up very well. So when your driving it will leak but since your car is hot and running it will just evaporate whatever leaks out of there and there will be no trace of it.
or
Jack up the car and look at the underside of the water pump. There should be a hole there under the pumps shaft thing. The seal will wear out when you need a new water pump. Then coolant or water will leak out as well without you knowing.

Could be a radiator leak thats hidden in-between. Sometimes in the sides of the 5.0 aluminum radiators a hole will burst at the weakest point. You wont see any smoke or steam from anywhere because whatever leaks out just evaporates with the heat. Best thing to do is, first thing in the morning, before you drive off, pop your hood and check real closely from whatever angles you can get to, if you have any leaks or cracks in the walls of the radiator.
