Im doing a rebuild for a buddy and im stuck on this simple thing, so after installing the timing cover and water pump ive noticed that there is a hole in the back of the water pump that matches to a hole in the manifold, only thing that came in the gasket kit was a rubber o ring. I installed the oring and manifold but it jus doesnt seem right like maybe im missing a part. Any body with knowledge of this please chim in I dont want to finish it to find out if it will leak or not. Thanks guys

There is an o ring that fits between the front cover and the intake. Is that what you are talking about/ [ 2014-04-29, 03:08 AM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]

84 when i was heavy in to the Pontiac motors we used to cut the front water section of the intake off just behind where it joins with the intake portion. this way we did not have to drain the coolant when replacing manifolds. We used to do this so we could do fast intake changes at the track to test them. I dont expect you would be doing this just a talking point.
The O ring is available from Fel Pro. Or the dealer. It is a square cut job app 1/4- thick [ 2014-04-30, 02:38 AM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]

Actually Pontiac did that to eliminate 2 fittings a hose and 2 clamps. Rather interesting how they did it. That feeds the cylinder head upper ports. Years back i ran Pontiac's pretty successfully and did very well in my class. I came up with many mods to this engine as well as other engines that were well received by racers and such. Have a good day.
