Drove down the block made a u turn to come home felt vibration then bam crazy thump noise I heard. Parked the car in my space walked down like 30-40 yards found my belt on the street and balancer in my neighbors grass.

It broke down the center as you guys can see, bolt still on the crankshaft.

Very common on FORDS!! Always use a quality part. Those inertia rings on the stock dampers have had serious issues. BUT to break the snout is very strange at best. Good luck!!

Only with the timing light you see that it was wobbly and the engine vibrated a little at idle. The car had a sputter then went away then comes back, yesterday it drove perfect pulled all the way to 4k. Made a u turn to come home then that happe

u used the incorrect bolt and washer to hold on your harmonic balancer. this is not common at all but mechanics negligence is at a all time high lol. u have to get the the right sized washer to hold your balancer on, if not there is nothing to hold your balancer in place and u just figured out the end result. dont try in supersede the ori equipment next time.

What's the correct size? From what I found on the internet those what I got or else I would've never put them in. But yeah you're right now I know the end result.

the ori washer is the best. is big in diameter to actually grab the balancer, and its thick so it wont bend went torquing them down. if u cant find one local go to the dealer, i have like 30 of them if everything else is impossible.

Duncan are you saying a separated inertia ring is not common on those engines??? I change tuns of them. He clearly posted his was wobbling./ When i do TRUE TDC it is quite evident Ford has a problem with those dampers. Just saying!! Clearly the bolt and most likely the washer is incorrect but ring separation is very common! He may have also hammered on the damper and that is a big NO NO

well on these 302,s ive never ever had one break or seen one break unless installed wrong like shown above, and even thats been under 5 total in my 20 year career. ive had hundreds in here in the last ten years and have a quite big clientele all over the bay area even where i hear about stuff or problems on these cars, to me its not common at all unless somehow like above installed wrong. i hear about the ring coming off from the rubber failure as kinda common if folks arent paying attention to the mechanics of the car. even with these driveway mechanics over tightening or under tightening i still havent seen this more than 5 time in my career, each time it was a small washer like above or a flimsy washer that folded over so end result was like above or the bolt wasnt tigntend and the balancer wobbled of till it hung at the tip to where it snapped like above. all mechanic error. maybe my luck i do admit i see the strange things that most havent and i admit to sometime not see what some say as to be common, but this topic is not familair to me one bit.

are u asking about the balncer snapping off and leaving the inner sleeve on that common? i say to my experience it is not common in my paths at all. if your asking about the outer ring separating and wobbling off as common, well if its a old balancer where the rubber is deteriorating, or Chinese it might be common. i believe this above failure was because he had to small a washer and there for there was nothing keeping the balancer on so it wobbled off to where it was only hanging on by the inner sleeve that yes snapped off.
