I recently drove my 65 mustang a tad with the speedo cable disconnected, I have been working on the instrument cluster. I now can not reconnect the cable to the back of the speedometer. It seems as though the inner CABLE has grown in length and there is no longer enough clearance to get the nut to bite. any chance the core cable walked? if so how do I fix it? can I just disconnect the tranny end and pull it back? thanks.

Probably be best to just buy a fresh new one. If not pull it completely out and do what you were thinking about
