I have a 2000 saleen 4.6 n/a with pulleys, 70mm throttle body, cai, and bassani off road x pipe with the stock borla catback. They sell this handheld tuner that claims to make more power with their "91 race tunes" for $380 on sale. Do you think its worth it? How much more power will it make? I didnt think you needed a tune for these simple bolt ons.

You dont need it and your car will run just fine without it. If i were you, i would buy a used hand held. They work the same just used, and they are a lot cheaper. The tunes from bama are not the greatest either. Think of it like this. The tunes they send out are for every mustang to use, not just your particular one. Yes, it will help your performance. but when you get to cams and heads, stuff like that, those bama tunes dont work anymore. They say free tunes for life, but they wont tune a cammed car. If you are only going to mod with bolt ons, then a handheld with bama tunes would probably be a good thing to buy. If you ever think about modding further, you will need a handheld for dyno tunes, and you can just buy a used one. Shop around before you make your final decision, either decision will benefit your car

Im keeping the car the way way it is. No cams or heads, maybe a nx 100 plate kit down the road. Would the hp gains justify the $380? Should I just save for the nx kit?

you'll need it to tune your car for the nitrous your planning on getting, new or used its worth it. now a bama tune is not worth it as you dont really gain and hp with these 2v unless you go with boost. with the tuner you can adjust shift point (if auto)rearend gears size, fuel +/-, advance timing, shut off rear 02 sensors if your running catless (older models only or with a tune) also you can check codes and data log your info and send it out to trick tuners for a real mail order tune

With all honesty.. BAMA tunes suck. Not worth almost $400 when a regular tune somewhere else costs only $100 more.

I dont know how many of the people here have actually bought and used the Xcal3 with a bama tune from american muscle, but I love mine.

I have an 03 GT Auto to put around in. Intake, x-pipe, mufflers, and the tuner was the best investment. I put the 91 oct perf tune on and it really woke the car up big time.

Really its like buying the xcal3 new and getting free tunes to play around with. You really can get as many revisions as you want. I have about 15.

A custom tune is 400-500 plus the cost of the xcal. Which they will charge 400 for anyways. So why not get the bama tuner? You can use it for the custom tune later if need be. That was my logic.
