I've been slowly cleaning up BS work that the previous owner did to the car and I've finally decided to find out where this mystery rubber hose that was blocked off by a bolt went. Apparently it went to the fuel pump. I pulled it off and gas came out of it. Now I'm curious. Why are there two fittings on the outlet side of the fuel pump? The barbed fitting on the right is the pump inlet and the two on the left are outlets (I'm assuming). The threaded one is where I have the fuel line to the carb hooked up. The barbed one above it is where the blocked off hose was attached. This engine is an '85 HO, so I was thinking maybe the barbed fitting was for some sort of emissions thing? I looked through the Haynes manual, but it doesn't say anything about it.

Vapor return.

Most mid to late eighties smoggers used a 3 port filter (fuel) rather than the fuel pump for this. It helped to prevent vapor lock and fuel boil as well.

I think it was later incorporated into the evap system on smogger carb cars
