Ok so I noticed my volts were low so I just got a yellow top and nothings changed. It's 2 bars above 8v which is the lowest it can go on the gauge. It goes up when I give it gas and than drops back down. When the volts are at a regular level it runs great though.... someone said a voltage regulator, any help??

You can take Your alternator into an auto parts store and have it checked out for free.

The gauge seem to be working correctly. The way the needle moves is relative to how the car runs. example- I turn the lights on, the voltage goes lower and idle is worse.

Yea I get that the gauge works but the calibration of it might not be correct like the needle points to 8 volts on the gauge when really it should be at 12v. It's just a cheap diognostic before you spend $90 on an alternator. So two things to your charging system battery and alternator you replaced one already it's still the same I say weak alt. you don't have like under drive pulleys without the correct alt pulpy do you?
Other thing to check. There is a fuse for the alt in the fuse panel under the dash should be a 20 this is what sends a signal to the reg on the alt from the ignition if it's popped the alt doesn't work

All fuses work perfectly, just checked that and I do have underdrive pulleys. I'm not sure if the one I have is the correct one though.

I pulled the battery while it was running and it continued to run. The alternator is working.

Just cause the car runs when you do that doesn't mean the alt isn't weak. Go have it tested are if it produces the correct volts if it does I would look into those pulleys

Did some research.... Says the o2 is probably the cause of the low voltage and stumbling idle. I then tracked down the wires and found the previous owner made his own 'wire extensions' to compensate for the long tube headers

[Eek!]

I am going to run my obd tester on it and see what codes it pulls up, no check engine lights are on at this point but that don't mean squat. Any more suggestions are welcome!

sorry i didnt read this whole thread.. but did you test the battery with a volt meter while the engine is running to verify 12 volts from the alternator?

I just bought a brand new red top optima battery so I'm sure the battery is ok. I was talking with my boy from a shop and he says hell bet his last dollar its the o2 sensors. Again, any more suggestions are welcome.
