Make sure your cable is set on the furthest hook forward to start with. With an adjustable cable and an aluminum quadrant you should have enough adjustment to setup your clutch/cable properly. After your cable is set on the furthest forward hook then you go under the car and adjust. You'll want to remove every last bit of slack that you can from the cable at the clutch fork and put a little pre load on it. The firewall adjuster makes life a lot easier cause you can go drive for a minute, then adjust it simply by pulling over and popping your hood. With only an adjustable cable you have to get under the car. The closer to the floor you want your setting the tighter you'll have to make your cable.
I have an aluminum quadrant with multiple hooks, a steeda adjustable cable, and a firewall adjuster for maximum flexibility. The way I adjust it is to use the furthest hook forward on the quadrant, take all the slack out of the cable, leave the firewall adjuster right in the middle, then go out dirving and adjust with the firewall adjuster and it works great for me.
Installing the firewall adjuster is very easy and would require you to loosen your adjustable cable, unhook the cable at the quadrant and install the firewall adjuster. Some clutch cables require you to cut some plastic tabs and remove the rubber bushing. Then adjust as stated above. This allows for really good adjustment of your clutch pedal angles and allows you to maximize the ease of clutch pedal effort and where the clutch actually grabs for the easiest clutch pedal effort possible.
My clutch effort in my Mustang is actually less than my SRT-4 which has a hydraulic clutch which I think is pretty impressive because hydraulic clutches are thought to be easier.
