I have an 85 gt, I can help you if you were closer.
What is the symptoms, like if you romp on it from an idle does it fall on it's face? Check ignition coil.

+1, the car is 25 years old and probably due for a carb rebuild among other things. You most likely have crud in the carb or a clogged fuel filter. Go get yourself a carb rebuild kit and new filter. They're cheap. Clean out all those little passages really well. Get new spark plugs and wires while your at it if you have not done them in a while. A good tune up will do wonders for performance and your MPG!
