The car won't hold a charge and dies whenever I stop at a light! Guy I bought it from had a powermaster chrome alternator in it but for a chevy 302! I changed it out with a 140 amp powermaster alternator made for the 302 ford! It's gets better voltage but doesn't hold enough at a light! It's a one wire alternator! I'm running a dual fan ran off a constant switch! Do I need a bigger alt?

If your alternator was working, it would not die. You need to first start out with a fully charged battery. Most batteries are about 450 amps. The proper way to charge a battery is at a low rate, say 2 amps per hour. There are 168 hours in a week, do the math, about 1.5 weeks on a charger. Next you need to watch the voltage while driving. It's probably about 10 volts by the time it dies out. Your battery will fry the votlage regulator. The voltage regulator will fry the alternator and the new battery you put in. It just keeps goning on and on.

Where is the voltage regulator located? It's a one wire alternator ran straight to the battery.

The voltage regulator is inernal and is located in the alternator. Once u rule out the alternator and battery as suspects it's time to chaise wires for the one in hundreds that's grounding out. This can be a tumultuous task. Hopefully it is a more simple culprate. Anywho good luck

Also check your inline fuse that is located on the left on your starter selinoid its the black wire with the orange line good luck.

I heard those power masters arnt all that great. I say its the alternator. Turn it on and disconnect the battery if it shuts off the alternator aint holdin a charge if it those then ur alt. Its good check the ground mak sure they are tight

So this morning drove car to work! And didn't die at all! Voltage rises as I drive to at least 14 volts bases off of meter! But at idle it's drops to a constant 10! I mite try taking off the underive and move them bak to stock and see what happens! Fuseable links were good! I'm just kinda iffy on the two plug on the alternator! I'm not shure if I wired it correctly!
