So I went to get my car smogged today (97 Nissan Maxima) and the car failed. I passed my previous smog back in Sept of 09 but didn't pass todays smog. I included both pictures to see if that can help any smog experts. I just recently changed my plugs with some NGK platinums (so that shouldnt be a problem).
Here is my previous one in Sept of 09:
Here is todays FAILED smog: (The 15mph test was the problem one)
Any ideas/suggestions

Start by replacing your plugs, wires, cap and rotor (if you have one) for the HC problem, and hope that fixes it. If not, you need new cats.
Also replace your EGR for the NOx. Not much else you can do about that except make sure all your smog equipment is hooked up right and not leaking, and back your timing off to cool down your cylinder temps.

Do you think running Seafoam will help? Unfortunately I don't have a place to check those that you mention, nor the tools. Are those pretty much the reasons? Not a clogged cat? I plan on running some seafoam and then brining my car for those problems to shop down the block. I was going to turn it in today, but he was too busy.

So when I walk into the shop should I just mention those two problems: Vacuum leak or Lazy 02 sensor? I just don't want them to make up some BS that I need a new cat when I dont need one. Will it be front or rears O2 sensors?

So I did Seafoam, 1/3 through the brake booster line, 1/3 oil crankcase, 1/3 gas tank. Went through the procedure and got all the smoke out. Drove about 50 miles and did an oil change. Drove about another 15 minutes and arrived to do my retest. FAILED!
Anybody work at a smog shop that does repairs and that could test it? I just want to fucking pass so that I can legally sell the car and not be liable for anything. [ February 09, 2010, 08:30 PM: Message edited by: Venomized93 ]

I checked autozone and they have a rear CAT that is universal that is CA legal (from what the clerk said) for $208. I also called a muffler shop in Daly City that would put new one for $250. If that's the case, which one would it be most likely, front or rear?
