Edelbrock Performer RPM 2.02/1.60 valve heads, versus AFR 185 heads. On an N/A 10.5:1 compression 347 stroker, what would be the power difference stock for stock?
What makes either head better, & why? All personal opinions aside please, just want concrete facts & specs...
Thanks in advance.... [ January 20, 2010, 01:12 AM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

AFR's I would think would be a much better option. That 347's going to want a lot of air, and those edie's aren't going to flow it.

Ok, I hear ya, but what are so bad about the eddy's? Thats what I can't get an answer on. Do they not flow well?
Would it be worth it to drop another $1500 on AFR's when I already have the Eddy's?

Thats the plan. I would rather throw the money into the shortblock, cam, & BIGGER longtubes. I think they are already mildly cleaned up, but I want to put a GOOD port on them...
I just wanted to see what people were gonna say & I am interested in what the power difference would be stock for stock? [ January 20, 2010, 02:10 AM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

my heads are just gt40x heads that have been gasket matched to felpro 1262 on intake 1415 on exhuast, the exhuast ports were raise 1/4 in exstensive work done on bowls and runners. ferra race valves 1.94/ and had 1.6's installed. 5 angle valve job and they are ready to go! you have 2.02s so it will be a better route than my 1.94, but port them and be done with it! you would be amazed at what a lil port/clean up and a good valve job will do:patriot:

Good info... Thanks Brandon. Those were my thoughts too, why drop another $1500 on new heads?

Oh I forgot that you had the already. I thought you were just going to buy some. Yeah I would send them out for some bad ass porting, im sure you could get them to flow better than any out of the box 185's.

your heads with good port work and a valve job should flow the same or more than a afr 185 head. and it would be cheaper, being you already have your heads [ January 20, 2010, 02:16 AM: Message edited by: blown95svt ]

It is cheaper to sell your Eddy's and buy new AFR's than spending the $$$ for port work and etc. I sold my Eddy's for $800 and purchased my AFR 185 new in the $13xx range. http://www.themustangdepot.com/servlet/the-68/AFR-ALUMINUM-HEADS-CNC/Detail
The link above "The Mustang Depot" has the best prices on AFR's, then price match it with summit to get the free shipping. The new Version 2 Afr's are much better, with LSX style springs standard .600 lift and 8mm valves for a lighter valve train. Afr has told me they flow a little more than the version 1 afr185, but have no numbers to prove that.
The Eddy's are great heads, but if your going to put $$$ into them, then I would sell. [ January 20, 2010, 12:38 PM: Message edited by: forced331 ]

get the afr's if you want the most power out of the setup. My old 185's back in 01 put down 424rwhp with a slight exhaust side cleanup, a matched performer rpm, and a custom cam. [ January 20, 2010, 01:25 PM: Message edited by: Camara90 ]

Epik, did this exact swap on my 347. I had performer rpms with stage 3 TEA porting and bowl work done these heads were JohnB's heads when the car was going 11.0. I swapped to afr 185 outlaws (no smog ports). I also swapped the cam from tfs 2 to a custom cam and bigger injectors 30s~~>44s. I was making 360/380 before and unfortunately haven't made it to the dyno yet. But I went from 12.7 @ 107 (tuned) to 11.5 @125 (untuned). The heads made an unbelievable difference and are box stock versus worked eddys. The torque is out of this world. The same suspension on the old setup front tires wouldn't leave the ground now Thea come up almsot a foot.

dustin ditch the eddys and pick up the afr 185s. upgrade the springs and call it a day. specs dont matter, the fact that many people have done both setups and seen way better results with the afrs should let u know what to go with, why waist ur money and time when someone else already has and u can learn from their mistakes!

No comparison, get the vic jrs, or some afr 205s. On a 347 if you want real power, go big.
But. If smog is a issue I would get the 185s, they pass with flying colors. And they match up great to the RPM II lower. I saw you were running that in your other post.

Vic jrs and the 205/225 are AWSOME heads but there is a such thing as too big. A perfectly matched combo is where efficient power is going to be made
