What year Explorers have the GT40 heads that will work on my 94 5.0? Is there anything I need to look for specifically? Will these pass smog? Are they aluminum? Please educate. [patriot]

Yeah, V8 Explorers and Mountaineers have these heads. The very early Explorers had real GT40's and after that they had GT40P's, all were cast iron. They are smog legal and will give you an increase over stock. If you can also snag an intake those give you a good power increase as well but look for the one with the internal EGR port so you can stay smog legal..... don't listen to the idiots that tell you to strip all the smog equipment off your car cuz you will regret it later.

the smog cross over pipe on the heads cannot be put on or at least be functional on the gt 40 and p heads explorer , or mountainer.and the gt 40 not the p heads ,on the explorer ect have a 93 pt number like the 93 cobra gt 40 but casted like the explorer bigger intake and exaust ports and have bigger vavles than the p heads.im not sure if the plug angle are the same on gt 40 an the p heads explorer stuff.it would be nice if the gt 40 explorer 93 casting number heads have the same angle as covention e7 heads , what a great swap.

I will need to pass the smog Nazis. I don't even want to deal with Ca smog issues. Especially in a smaller city like Redding. I definately need the smog tube that runs along the back side of the heads. Anyone know what years Exploders had those particular heads? Thanks for the input. [patriot]
